Building society backs swimming club

Posted onPosted on 11th May

Mansfield Building Society’s Community Support Scheme has donated £1,000 to Sutton Swimming Club to help it boost a recruitment drive and support the training of two new assistant coaches.

Simon Hill, treasurer and coach, said: “We are a small friendly club and we endeavour to create a relaxed, yet orderly atmosphere, which enables children/young people to enjoy swimming and take pride in their performance.

“We applied for funding from the Community Support Scheme in a bid to boost our Rebuild Project. The pandemic reduced both member and volunteer numbers significantly and we are keen to restore the club to its former glory. We intend to use the donation to train two volunteer assistant coaches and produce a recruitment campaign to drive up membership.

“We are immensely proud of our members who train hard every week and pull out all the stops at competitions, and we want to repay their hard work by strengthening the support we can provide.”

Richard Crisp, commercial development executive at the building society, added: “Our Community Support Scheme supports organisations that work extremely hard to benefit our local communities, with projects they are endeavouring to fulfil.

“Sutton Swimming Club is a long established gem of the local area and we are thrilled to be able to help keep the club afloat by supporting their expansion plans and that they continue to bring the trophies home.”
