Bright future as village candle company celebrates anniversary

Posted onPosted on 11th Jul

When young mum Chantelle North launched her part-time candle-making business from a room at her Teversal home just over a year ago, little did she know just how popular her work would become.

For the Teversal Village Candle Company is now celebrating its first anniversary, a year in which it has sold in excess of 5,000 candles and melts, held monthly events, stood at craft markets in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, and featured in local newspapers and on radio.

The business, which is a true family affair, is now actively looking for larger premises so that it can increase the number of candles that can be produced, and its products are beginning to be stocked by independent retailers.

On Saturday, July 14, Chantelle (25) will celebrate with a candle and cake event, taking place between 11am and 4pm at the Teversal Manor Rooms. As part of the celebrations, the event will also raise money for the Rainbows Children’s Hospice.

Chantelle said: “Because of the anniversary, the July candle and cake event is a little bit special, with entertainment and something for the children too.

“We also wanted to do a little bit to help others too, and that’s we are pleased to have announced that our chosen charity for our anniversary event will be Rainbows, a hospice for children and young people. All proceeds from the “guess how many wax melts in the jar”’ competition will be donated to Rainbows.”

Chantelle added: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to people who have supported the company, and to my family, who have got involved and helped to make the business so successful.”

The company produces a range of fragrances, with the most popular being one called Fairy Dust (described as a “beautiful, soft powdery floral, with a hint of fruits, set on a musky base), and another called Mysterious (a “blend of mandarin and pomegranate with a heart of patchouli and incense, supported by rich cashmere musk and woods”).

There is a special 3 for 2 offer at the event, and everyone who makes a purchase at the event will get a 50 per cent off voucher when they open an account and then make their first purchase from the company’s website.
