Youngsters take step back in time

Posted onPosted on 17th Oct

Children from Asquith Primary School, Mansfield, went back in time when Four Seasons Shopping Centre’s B Club visited for a workshop journey through history.

Children learnt about the first world war, Remembrance Day and the significance of poppies.

Asquith youngsters helped to create a huge poppy mural made of their own designs, which will go on display in The Hive at the shopping centre in commemoration of Armistice Day.

Rebekah O’Neill, Four Seasons manager, said: “Since we launched our newly-themed B Club, the activities have proved to be popular, with both children and parents. Each season brings a combination of educational topics and exciting things to keep little ones fascinated.”

Asquith teacher Shauna Thomas added: “Children in years 3 and 4 loved learning about the meaning behind poppies of remembrance.”

Throughout October and November, little visitors to the centre will be able to enjoy a variety of creative projects all centred around important historic dates.

We Will Remember Them B Club will be taking place on Monday, 29 October and marks 100 years since the end of WW1. Children will be able add their hand print to a giant Flanders Field art project as well as learning about life during the war, from food rationing and the different clothes and toys little ones played with then.

On Wednesday, 31 October, kids mad about dinosaurs will be able to stomp their way through the pre-historic era, where they will take part in a fossil hunt at the ‘Dino-dig’ themed B Club. They will also learn all about the world these massive creatures roamed hundreds of millions of years ago.

Once Upon A Time B Club on Sunday, 18th November will be a workshop where children can join Snow White in decorating their own red toffee apple to take home, as well as other magical activities.

All B Club events take place on the mall in the Four Seasons on the specified dates, from 11am until 3pm. Those who attend eight or more sessions this year will receive a free goody bag with the centre’s loyalty card scheme.
