Swap shop at Mansfield Museum

Mansfield Museum is holding a free clothes swap event next month.

The event, on Tuesday 11 October, from 5pm to 8pm, offers the opportunity to bring unwanted adult and children’s clothes, accessories, and shoes to be swapped for ‘new’ used items.

Clothes swaps, or ‘swishing’ events, provide an ethical and cheap alternative to mainstream clothes shopping by exchanging unwanted clothes for free. All clothes must be clean and either unworn or in good condition.

Families are encouraged to drop off items at the museum in advance of the event. Each item dropped off will be exchanged for a token which can be used at the swap shop to ‘buy’ an item in return.

Local businesses will also attend to provide hairdressing demonstrations and make-up and beauty advice. A range of children’s activities will also be available, including a face painter, along with refreshments and a photo booth.

Mansfield District Council Portfolio Holder for Cultural Services and Town and District Centre Cllr David Smith said: “This is an excellent idea and I hope people will support it and find a new home for all those clothes they no longer need.”

Further information can be found on the museum’s website – www.mansfield.gov.uk/museum – or social media pages.
