Market Place to host dog show

There will be fun for all the family and their four-legged friends at a dog show on Sunday, 16 July.

The event in Mansfield Market Place, organised by Mansfield District Council, is being held for the second year in a row.

From 10am, dogs can be entered into the following categories for just £2 per dog, per category:

Cutest puppy (16 weeks to 12 months)
Most handsome chap
Loveliest lady
Best friend (child handler)
Best rescue

The winner of each category will then compete for the overall best in show title.

There will be rosettes for the top three finishers in each category. The winner of best in show will receive a a £20 voucher to spend on Mansfield Market and a special rosette.

The first class is at 11am and the event finishes at 2pm. All proceeds from the entries will go to The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, which will be among the judges on the day.

The council’s Dog Control team will be on hand with its mascot Chip to offer advice and information about looking after dog. Visitors can also get some dog safety advice, including information about their Be a Tree campaign.

There will be market stalls, giveaways, competitions with prizes and other family entertainment, including craft activities and giant games.

Cllr Dave Saunders, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Growth at Mansfield District Council, said: “This is a great opportunity to find out if your pet has what it takes to win a prize. There will be lots of free activities and entertainment so it promises to be a fun day for all the family.”
