Get set for specialist markets

An Artisan and Craft Market, offering a wide selection of food and drink along with hand-crafted goods and entertainment will be taking place on Sunday, 6 August, from 10am to 3pm, in Mansfield town centre.

It will feature locally-sourced traders and stallholders selected based on the quality and diversity of the items they offer.

The artisan and craft market was introduced in June and is set to become a regular feature, running on the first Sunday of each month. Bookings are still being taken for new stallholders to come along.

Last month, Dammit Jack entertained the crowds with his singing. There was also a caricature artist who made personalised gifts for individuals and families by drawing a caricature of them.

A beach will be up and running until 26 August, with free craft activities for children and also a chance to win a gift hamper.

Free parking is available in the Four Seasons Shopping Centre on Sundays.

The town centre also hosts a monthly International Mini Market selling various products from around the world. This takes place on the second Wednesday of each month from 10am until 4pm. Entertainment with an international flavour will add to the atmosphere.

The next is on Wednesday 9 August, which will be celebrated as a Hawaiian Beach party. Children will have a chance to take part in a sandcastle competition and win prizes.

Visitors will be able to taste food from different countries like Caribbean, Polish, Czech and Slovak food, alongside traditional locally-made donuts and various types of cakes.

There will be handmade traditional jewellery, hair accessories, perfumes from around the world and various handmade craft items.

Coun Dave Saunders, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Growth at Mansfield District Council, said: “Our specialist markets are becoming popular and have added a real buzz to the Town Centre. These events are attracting people who are interested to see what’s on offer and we hope that with support from the local community we can continue to make improvements to their shopping experience.

“We’re also encouraging new stall holders to come along to help us to enhance the town’s offering. So if you have an interesting product you would like to sell, you can get in touch with the markets team for advice about which specialist market might suit you best.”

The council also offers rent-free stalls via the Incubation Unit Scheme for traders offering a new product line to the existing market. For details email [email protected] or call 01623 463818.
