Free Armed Forces Day tribute event

An Armed Forces Day tribute event is to be held in Mansfield Market Place on Sunday, 26th June, from 11am to 3pm.

Thanks And Fun, arranged by the Mansfield Business Improvement District (BID) and Mansfield District Council, is a thank-you to all the Armed Forces and Servicemen and women over the decades, who will be remembered for their past or current service.

The Army Careers Office, Help For Heroes, HMS Sherwood, the Royal British Legion, 384 Cadets,
350 Field Squadron (EOD) Royal Engineers, the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy Reserve, Mercian TA Regiment, Mansfield Sea Cadets and Pinders Opticians will be there.

Among the attractions for visitors will be a Home Guard roadblock Dad’s Army-style, a second world war ‘downed airman’, ‘Danger – Unexploded Bomb, the Women’s Home Guard Auxiliary, Home Guard training, cadet drills and displays, Army vehicles on display and vintage fire engines as well as free cupcakes, flags and Pinders Opticians giving people the chance to try on old-style hats.

There will be the chance to dance 1940s with Trina and her dancers and sing-a-long with Army singer Pete and the Maypole Good Time Band.

Messages of thanks can be left for anyone who has served in the Forces on our giant heart and many messages wiull be read out live on air by Mansfield 103.2.

Among the free fun will be camouflage face-painting for children.

Match-funding for the event has been provided by the MOD.
