Flypast at garden and craft festival

The Mansfield Garden and Craft Festival is to be staged in two marquees in Mansfield Market Place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September, from 11am to 3pm.

On behalf of the Trustees for the Allotments for the Labouring Poor, who fund the two-day festival, Mansfield BID is again organising the annual event.

There is a chance for Mansfield people to show off their best vegetables, flowers, fruit, homemade wine and plants on the Saturday.

On Sunday there will be a baking competition.

A highlight of the weekend will be RAF flypasts by a Spitfire or Hurricane on both days.

The festival, sponsored by Arena church, Leeming Street, will also include craft, food and local business stalls, as well as children’s activities.

There will be an awards ceremony on Sunday, at 2pm.

Sue Rogers, event organiser at Mansfield BID, said: “This year is a special year for The Trustees for the Allotments for the Labouring Poor, who commission the festival, as they celebrate 100 years of looking after the charity and providing allotments.

“To mark this important milestone we applied to the RAF for them to perform a Flypast sometime over the weekend. We never expected to have both days confirmed.”
