The power of 10 for Portland principal

The principal and chief executive at Portland College is celebrating 10 years at the college by tackling 10 challenges from learners in 10 months.

Mark Dale has pledged to raise £1,000 for a new Woodland Activity Centre project.

“Portland has a wonderful woodland campus in historic Sherwood Forest, known all over the world and forever linked with the legend of Robin Hood,” he said.

“When the learners challenged me to a series of 10 challenges over 10 months I had to take it up.

“I am proud to draw attention to our exciting plans to open up our woodland to disabled people.

“Our woodland will offer a menu of thrilling adventures, accessible to all. Please support my fundraising efforts to turn our vision into reality.”

Mark’s second challenge was to create a music video with the help and direction of Portland’s media learners.

They decided on the song, Right Said Fred’s I’m Too Sexy, created the concept of the video and took on the filming and editing.

Portland is a specialist college for young people with disabilities and associated learning difficulties.
The activity centre would include a fully-accessible climbing wall, zip line, walking paths and much more that could be accessed by learners as well as the wider community.
