Teversal Football Club is hosting a family fun day to mark its centenary on Sunday. 28th October – with all profits from the event being donated to the British Heart Foundation.

The Tevie Boys have teamed up with the club’s main sponsor, SR Timber, to organise the community event, which will include a five-a-side tournament, a hog roast and a ghost walk, finishing off with a spectacular firework display.

The day starts at 11am and finishes with the fireworks at 7pm.

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith will unveil the club’s centenary plaque.

There will be a number of stands at the Carnarvon Street ground event, selling cakes, candyfloss and other goodies. There will also be face painting, toy stalls and the Teversal Village Candle Company.

The British Heart Foundation will have a stand on the day to talk about heart health and they will have a donation box for those who wish to donate further. The Teversal Bar and Restaurant will also be open during the day for drinks and refreshments.

Teversal FC chairman Pete Cockerill said that the club couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate its 100th anniversary than to host an event and invite the whole community to share its birthday bash.

“SR Timber came to us with an idea to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, and the idea of a family fun day snowballed from there,” said Pete

Facilities manager Nick James added: “We are delighted to organise an event where there’s something for everyone – there will be football, food, fireworks, maybe some phantoms and, of course, lots of fun.

“We’re very grateful for the support of the team at SR Timber and their help in organising the event and kindly donating the hog roast and the Spectacular firework display, which will be the finale to a great day.

“And it’s extra special because we know that we’re raising money for a very good cause: figures from the British Heart Foundation suggest that more than 25,500 people in the Mansfield and Ashfield area are living with cardiovascular disease – which leads to 570 deaths per year.

“Entrance is only £1 for adults and free for children under the age of 16 – the more people who come and join us, the more money we can raise at our 100th birthday event.”

Steve Hill, operations manager at Huthwaite-based SR Timber, which is the UK’s leading importer of timber products and batten (including its flagship Premium Gold) that is used in roofing, is delighted at the proactive collaboration between the company and the club.

“This year has been a landmark year for SR Timber because we named the British Heart Foundation as our chosen charity partner and also agreed a sponsorship deal with the Tevie Boys. The idea for the event came about as a way to cement the partnerships.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the community to the event on Sunday 28th October, and we hope that the British Heart Foundation can benefit as a result.”

The events on the day will include:

Noon – five-a-side tournaments for all ages.

4.30pm – Hog roast donated by SR Timber.

6pm – Spooky ghost walk.

7pm – SR Timber’s firework display.
