A charity fund aiming to send terminally-ill local man Mark Lewis on the holiday of a lifetime came a step closer to its £30,000 goal thanks to the efforts of a Sutton opticians.

The team at Specsavers, Idlewells Shopping Centre, held a day of fundraising with a cake sale featuring homemade goodies baked by staff and a tombola, which included more than 120 prizes.

Several retailers in the shopping centre also donated tombola prizes.

The day raised a total of £500 for the fund, which was set up by Mark’s colleagues with the target of raising £30,000 to send him and his family on the holiday.

Any money left over will be donated to the John Eastwood Hospice, Sutton.
