See Mansfield through the eyes of Tour of Britain cyclists

People can see Mansfield as 120 of the world’s top cyclists will see it when they set off from the Market Place on Stage Four of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain.

A video of the 6km route they will take through Mansfield district, filmed by a cyclist wearing a GoPro camera, is now available on Mansfield District Council’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/mymansfielduk and website www.mansfield.gov.uk/ToB2017

The video aims to help the thousands of residents and visitors, who are expected to line the streets on Wednesday, 6th September, to see the route and plan their viewing point.

The route took the cyclist 20 minutes, including stopping at traffic lights, but the footage has been speeded up so you can spend just three minutes experiencing Mansfield as a Tour of Britain cyclist.

The cyclists are expected to go a bit faster than the cyclist in the video although the actual race doesn’t start until the cyclists reach Annesley.

As this prestigious event is the biggest free-to-attend sporting event in the UK, there will be some disruption to transport and facilities in the area, although this will be kept to a minimum. More details about expected disruption will be released before the main event.

This is one of the biggest sporting events to come to Nottinghamshire so the whole community is urged to get involved. You could do a flash mob activity along the route, line the streets and cheer on the cyclists with homemade shakers, display a ToB window sticker and poster, which can be collected from Civic Centre mid-August, or you can enter the Best Dressed competition.

To enter you have to be a Mansfield business or resident and all you need to do is decorate the front of your property, window or garden in yellow accessories and email a photo of it to [email protected] by 12noon on Friday, 25th August. Then get people to like your photo on the council’s Facebook page @MyMansfieldUK until 11pm on Thursday, 31st August.

The person or business with the most likes will be crowned the winner and will win two VIP tickets to the ToB village on Mansfield Market Place to see the race off, along with a goodie bag. Terms and conditions apply so be sure to visit the website to check them out.

Cllr Dave Saunders, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Growth at Mansfield District Council, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to see many of the world’s top cyclists right here on our doorstep. We hope thousands of people will line the streets and the video lets you see exactly the route the race will take so you can decide where you want to watch from on the day.”

You can see the map of the route and video along with information about plans for the day via the council’s website www.mansfield.gov.uk/ToB2017
