Reeling in anglers of the future

Posted onPosted on 6th Sep

The Mansfield Building Society has donated £600 through its Community Support Scheme to help Nottingham Anglers Association organise and promote a junior open league competition.

The association is one of the largest fishing clubs in the Midlands with a membership of more than 2,400.
The funds helped open up competitive angling to younger members.

Ian Wilks, junior development officer at the association, said: “Young people are keen to start fishing but there are few places for them to go and learn the sport.

“The money donated by The Mansfield has given these youngsters the chance to compete locally and have the thrill of taking part in a competitive sport.”

Gev Lynott, chief executive of the society, who visited the league to meet the association said: “It was brilliant to see so many young people getting involved in angling.

“It was a busy day and I can’t wait to see what happens next year.”
