Jake has designs on good year for the Stags

A young Mansfield Town Football Club fan spoke of his pride after his kit design was chosen for the club’s new home shirt.

Artwork by 11-year-old Jake Martin was selected by the club’s board of directors after ideas were submitted by supporters.

Jake, who visited One Call Stadium for a sneak preview of the new jersey, said: “It looks great in real life and it’s really comfy, so I think all the fans and players will like it.

“It feels very good [to have my design chosen] and I’m really excited to see what it brings to the team.

“I can’t wait to see what happens. I hope we can get promoted this season.”

The youngster sketched his design while spending a day with the Football In The Community department.

“They gave out a few pictures of some kits — the different styles and stuff — and I took one idea of a gradient from top to bottom and just tweaked it a bit,” he said. “I just thought of the rest.

“I think it was a good idea to give the fans the opportunity to get involved with the club. It’s a great idea.”

Jake won a replica home match kit, a year’s free pass at Football In The Community, a season ticket for 2017-18 for himself and a parent/guardian and the chance to be a matchday mascot at a home game of his choice.
