Owen (six) takes on 10-mile bike ride for Epilepsy UK

Posted onPosted on 25th May

When Owen Green was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of four, he didn’t let it stop him from doing everyday things.

And now the six-year-old will take part in a 10-mile bike ride to raise money for Epilepsy Action UK, the charity that has helped him and his family.

Owen, who lives in Eastwood, wants to raise as much as he can for the charity and to raise awareness of epilepsy.

His mum, Heather Boddice, an early years practitioner at a nursery, is one of a team of eight riders who will on June 17th set out to ride a 92-mile route from the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham to Skegness.

They will be raising money for a number of organisations, and Owen will join them for the last 10 miles of the ride.

Heather said: “The epilepsy charity has really helped us out so much, both with information and advice on what to do when Owen has a seizure.

“When he first developed it, seizures were happening every day and he spent nine weeks in hospital. Now, on medication, he has one every couple of months.”

And she added: “When we told him about our bike ride, he said he would really like to do something for Epilepsy UK. He’s really looking forward to it.”

Owen’s grandma, Dawn Green (pictured), who works at Fidler & Pepper Solicitors, in Mansfield and Sutton, said: “We’re all very proud of Owen. He just gets on with things. I shall be there at the end, cheering on the riders, and in particular, Owen.”
