Monte Carlo or bust for fundraisers

Posted onPosted on 21st Oct

Three friends from Mansfield Woodhouse raised £1,479 for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance by taking part in Europe’s longest banger rally.

The Monte Carlo or Bust Rally sees competitors buy a car for less than £300 and then hit Europe’s greatest roads in a bid to travel to Monte Carlo in three days.

Along the way there are daily challenges to complete, both on and off the road.

The team — of Bryan Murfin, Will Thompson and Chris Chadbourne — bought an old Audi A4 1.6.

They dressed in black suits with chequered ties in reference to ska band Two Tones and their car was donned with a matching black and white chequered band.

They called themselves the Three Tones.

Chris said: “We decided to do this trip for fun but thought, how about raising money for a charity.

“We decided to support the air ambulance as we are all motorbikers and scooter riders.”

On the first day they travelled from Saint Quentin to Dijon and on the following day made their way to Turin, before making it to Monte Carlo — covering 2,250 miles in three days.

The fundraisers came 10th out of 85 cars.

Air ambulance chief executive Karen Jobling said: “Thank you to Bryan, Will and Chris for choosing to support the ambucopter during what looks to have been a really fun challenge.

“It is thanks to the support from those who raise money for us, that we can keep our vital service going.”
