Improving the way home from hospital

Posted onPosted on 27th May

Patients can look forward to a more efficient way of being discharged from hospital thanks to the relocation and expansion of the discharge lounge at King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton.

The hospital said the new lounge was a testament to its modernising initiatives, which were designed to improve efficiency and patient comfort.

Staffed by registered nurses and healthcare assistants, the lounge offers a safe, comfortable and convenient place for patients who are awaiting discharge from the hospital to wait for their transportation home.

Priority has been given to fostering a home-from-home feel. The lounge has comfortable chairs and can accommodate patients in beds.

A choice of food and drinks are available.

The new lounge makes the discharge process far more efficient as it effectively frees-up acute hospital beds much earlier in the day, ensuring bed availability for patients most at need.

Phil Bolton, divisional head of nursing at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “This comfortable, new discharge lounge is a great asset to the hospital.

“We are committed to providing the best care for our patients – the aim of the lounge is to ensure that no patient says in hospital longer than necessary.”

The lounge is situated on Ward 35. Access for relatives, hospital or other transport is gained via the main entrance of the hospital.
