Geared up for a racing day out

An elderly resident at Sutton’s new care home has enjoyed a special day at Silverstone.

Taff Jones was driven around the circuit in a Porsche Spider at 130mph, dropping in at the race pits, race control and having lunch with a race team.

Car enthusiast Taff, who has a long history with auto sport, mentioned his love of fast cars and track events to his team of carers when he and his wife, Irene, moved into Kingfisher Court.

The home, run by Oakdale Care Group, arranged his special day with Andrew Long, co-founder, taking him to Silverstone, where they were joined by fellow co-founder Chris Babington in his Ginetta G40 race car.

Cheryl Pitchford, Taff’s daughter, said: “One lucky dad and grandad – a big thank you to the wonderful staff at Kingfisher Court.”

Paul Quirk, home manager, added: “We are committed to incorporating as much of our residents interests as possible.

“We do take the time in getting to know our residents, which allows us to build up a better understanding of them, their history, and what motivates and inspires them.”
