Exercise at your own pace with new App

Ashfield District Council leader Jason Zadrozny will be among those taking part this coming weekend to promote Sutton’s partnership with an interactive outdoor physical activity App.

The council and leisure provider Everyone Active have teamed up with interactive mobile app, Sprytar, to encourage and engage the local community, who may not have access to a local leisure centre, to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

The local community will get their first taste of what the app is all about on Saturday, between 10am and noon, at Sutton Lawn – one of two locations in the district that have been incorporated onto Sprytar.

Sprytar is the first augmented reality app specifically designed for destination parks and visitor attractions and is now available to download across Apple and Android devices, Sprytar has also incorporated King’s Mill Reservoir layouts to its park choices.

Local Ashfield residents have two circular guided trail options to try and complete – a 1K fitness trail at Sutton Lawn or a 2km walk, run or cycle route at Kings Mill Reservoir.

Sprytar will also deliver push notifications to engage those undertaking their chosen route to complete additional exercises; such as lunges and high knees.

Councillor Zadrozny said: “This council sees health and wellbeing as an important responsibility so I am looking forward to seeing the App in action. Taking advantage of this kind of technology will enable even more people to have access to physical activities in the community. Users of the app will have a pleasant setting to work on their personal fitness by following the routes in our beautiful award-winning parks and open spaces.”

Richard Chatwin, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “The app is totally free and can be used by anyone wishing to try out basic activities whilst walking, cycling or running in Ashfield’s beautiful outdoor environment. The activities provide a fun way to exercise at your own pace and time. We hope to see it being widely-used to support the increase in health and wellbeing across the district as an additional part of our leisure provision.”
