Community events to fundraise for young people’s centre

Young people are planning a series of events to help fundraise for a refurbishment of their local youth club.

More than 20 young people are organising and holding the events for the Garrage Young People’s Centre on Garibaldi Road, Forest Town.

They will be undertaking a community litter pick with help from local neighbourhood wardens on 24th October. The litter pick will be held at Clipstone Road open space which has a lot of rubbish strewn across the site.

The following day, the young people will be making cakes and selling them as part of fundraising afternoon at the young people’s centre in Garibaldi Road, Mansfield.

The youth club’s management committee is looking to raise around £2,000 through a series of activities which can help with the refurbishment works. The plans include removing some of the interior walls of the centre to create a bigger open space and a new kitchen.

Zoe Taylor, a youth worker for Nottinghamshire County Council, at the Garrage Young People’s Centre, said: “These events will help raise the profile of our young people as well as raising vital funds for our young people’s centre. We are looking forward to both events as part of our fundraising drive.”

Coun Tracey Taylor, vice-chairman of the Children and Young People’s Committee, at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “These activities demonstrate how our young people are closely involved with their local community and we wish them every success with these events.”
