Royal honour for three Ashfield firms

Businesses in Ashfield have been praised by Nottinghamshire County Council for receiving The Queen’s Award.

Abacus Lighting, based in Sutton, and Kirkby’s Sanglier Ltd and Romo Group have all been honoured with the award, which is among the highest official UK accolade a British business can receive.

Abacus, which has been exporting for more than 50 years, is a specialist in installing lighting masts that can be lowered to ground level for maintenance. Abacus Lighting won The Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade.

Romo Group was recognised for developing exports of its luxury fabrics, wall coverings and accessories, which are manufactured in Nottinghamshire.

The firm, which also received the award in 2008, employs more than 380 people.

Sanglier Ltd, a specialist in adhesives, was also awarded The Queen’s Award for International Trade 2017. It has recorded year-on-year substantial growth in sales overseas for six years and has recorded outstanding growth.

County council chairman Coun John Handley said: “We would like to offer our congratulations to these companies who have received The Queen’s Award, which recognise excellence.

“It is wonderful recognition for these firms and raises the profile of their work.

“We are pleased that companies in the county are doing so well and it shows what we have to be proud of in Nottinghamshire.”
