A Sutton company that sells large-scale lighting solutions around the world has won the top honours at the region’s most prestigious business awards.

Abacus Lighting, which designs, builds, installs and maintains lighting systems for roads, rail depots, airports, industrial premises and sports stadia, took the Business Of The Year accolade at the East Midlands Chamber Nottinghamshire Business Awards.

Working from concept to creation and after-sales maintenance, Abacus Lighting’s specialist in-house teams work hard to ensure that every project exceeds customer expectations.

It has dedicated and experienced teams working in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Americas, the Caribbean, Asia and Oceania as well as in the UK.

Receiving the award from sponsor Mazars, managing director Camilla Wigmore said: “It’s a great accolade to get this award in our 40th year of Chamber membership and for a company that has been in existence for 60 years.”

The company was one of 12 to win an award.

To qualify as a contender for the top accolade of Business of the Year, Abacus Lighting had already scooped the Excellence In International Trade Award.

Chamber president Geoff Poyzer said: “We had some good entries and the judging process, as it is every year, was extremely tough, but all the winning businesses thoroughly deserve their success.

“The standard of competition was extremely high, which clearly shows that despite the political and economic uncertainties of Brexit and a General Election resulting in a minority Government, we have some real success stories of Nottinghamshire businesses doing very well. All of the finalists deserve recognition for their success.

“Over the past 12 months, businesses in Nottinghamshire have been busy keeping calm and carrying on investing, innovating, exporting and growing.

“These awards are testament to the quality of the businesses we have in the county and I applaud each and every one of them.”
