Award for Robert Woodhead

Nottingham City Homes, Robert Woodhead Ltd and BESTbuild are celebrating after taking home two top Considerate Constructors Awards for a new-build bungalow development in Broxtowe.

The scheme received a Gold Considerate Constructors Award for the overall approach to caring for the community, the environment, local workforce, site appearance and to securing everyone’s safety.

The scheme of four sustainable bungalows was also awarded the Most Considerate Site in the UK to take top spot in the £500,000 or less category for the most considerate site, making it the best in the UK within its value band.

Nottingham City Homes (NCH) and Nottingham City Council (NCC) worked alongside Woodhead’s housing specialists Woodhead Living in partnership with local social enterprise BESTBuild to deliver an exemplar scheme.

The project was awarded 45/50 the highest score Woodhead has received in its 70 year history.

On its first visit to the site, the national accreditation body particularly praised the partnership between NCH, Woodhead and BESTbuild, and the engagement and opportunity this has offered more than 20 local people who have been working on-site throughout, building their skills and experience.

Run by the Considerate Constructors Scheme, the awards recognise developments having gone the extra mile to deliver considerate construction projects.

The inspector said: “The image projected by the site is excellent and an important public demonstration of appearance. The use of the project as a job creation opportunity is applauded and exceptional.”

Mark Maisey, Team Leader for Woodhead said: “These awards really show that with hard work, engaged partners and a committed team you can achieve so much, even on smaller sites. It’s not about spending huge sums of money; it’s about discovering what customers and communities value and delivering that vision.”

Denton Green is part of the Building a Better Nottingham programme, which will see more than 450 new homes built on sites across Nottingham. Each of the bungalows in the scheme have now been let to Nottingham residents requiring level access living accommodation.

Philippa McKenna NCH’s Considerate Constructor Champion, said: “We are building new homes as part of the Building a Better Nottingham programme to improve the lives of our local communities and want to make sure that as part of that process our developments have a positive impact on the people living closest to them.”

Woodhead worked with apprentices and tradespeople from BESTbuild, which is based just across the road. Site managers and experienced tradespeople from Woodhead have been able to offer guidance, providing the trainees with valuable site experience, as well as sharing their skills and knowledge.

Anna Mimms MBE is Chief Executive at BEST Group, she said: “BESTbuild provides cost effective commercial solutions for main contractors to meet their social value commitments. Nottingham City Homes’ desire to make social return on investment a priority should be applauded. We are thrilled that BESTbuild working with Robert Woodhead resulted in a Gold Considerate Constructors Award. Congratulations to everyone involved.”
