Building society staff set to smash fundraising target

Posted onPosted on 11th Aug

In just six months, The Mansfield Building Society has almost reached its two-year fundraising target for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Staff at the society named Macmillan as its charity partner in December with a commitment to raise at least £5,000 for the cause by December 2018.

Fundraising is already well on track, however, after staff completed many events to raise £4,117 in the first six months.

In March, they completed a 40-hour bikeathon in the Mansfield branch, cycling during opening hours.

During May, a team of 15, including family and friends, climbed Mount Snowdon in Wales.

In June, four members of staff hiked from the society’s branch in Chesterfield to its branches in Sutton and Kirkby, before finishing at its Mansfield head office.

All funds raised for Macmillan by The Mansfield will be used to support the charity’s local activity in Mansfield, Ashfield and Chesterfield.

Meg Fisher, customer service manager, who was part of the team that tackled the six-hour hike to reach the peak of Mount Snowdon in torrential weather, said: “Macmillan is a charity that means so much to so many.”

Stacey Smalley, Macmillan fundraising manager for Nottinghamshire, said: “I am amazed at the amount of enthusiasm everyone at The Mansfield has for raising money for Macmillan.

“This will make a huge difference through our information centres, helpline and Macmillan professionals working in the community.”
