Bringing science to life for youngsters

Two Mansfield primary schools — Berry Hill and Oak Tree — hosted science-related activities during British Science Week.
Berry Hill had visits from the energy team at Boots, which looked at insulating material, and Iain Brown, from the Royal Engineers, through the STEM Ambassadors scheme, who built towers with Year 4 pupils.

Claire Lowe and students from the town’s Vision Studio School looked at skeletons with Year 3; Richard Smith, from Schools Energy Efficiency, organised energy treasure hunts; Diane Bailey, from Virgin Money, talked to Year 5 about maths and enterprise; and Jack Hider talked about robotics with Year 6.

Oak Tree secured a Kirk Start grant from the British Science Association towards their own science day.

Pupils from Berry Hill are pictured with Clare Lowe and students Megan Green and Casey Spinks, from Vision Studio School.
