Beads and bangles plea for children’s play sessions

So you have costume jewellery that you always intended to mend but somehow never got round to it?

Mansfield District Council is appealing for people to donate their old bangles and beads to be used in craft activities during family fun sessions that are held in the town during the school summer holidays.

The weekly sessions are run in Carr Bank Park for vulnerable families in the district in collaboration with Nottinghamshire Independent Domestic Abuse Service (NIDAS) and Mansfield Area Partnership (MAP). Each week about 35 families take part.

The sessions include inside and outside activities such as football, tennis, badminton, hula hoops, bean bag races, face painting and an assortment of craft activities. The children are also provided with healthy lunches and snacks.

Anne Callaghan, the council’s Senior Parenting Practitioner, said: “One of the craft activities, which has proved extremely popular with both boys and girls, is making dream catchers. This is why we could do with any unwanted beads and bangles as they are needed to make this item.”

People wishing to donate can leave their beads and bangles in the reception of the Civic Centre in Mansfield or at Mansfield Museum in the town centre. If the council receives more donations than it needs, any extra will be passed to Mansfield Play Forum or local schools and children’s centres.
