Top export role for businessman

Posted onPosted on 13th Mar

Mansfield businessman Malcolm Hall has been appointed an export champion by the Department for International Trade.

Malcolm (pictured), managing director of Hall-Fast Industrial Supplies, Mansfield, said: “I was obviously pleased to be asked to take on an ambassadorial role.

“The government has set ambitious targets to get an additional 100,000 SMEs exporting by 2020.

“I am keen to do my bit to promote the benefits of exporting and bust the myths that put a lot of SMEs off exporting.”

The appointment was announced by International Trade Minister Mark Garnier and was timed to coincide with the first Midlands Engine Trade Summit at the Vox in Birmingham.

Export champions are part of a programme to encourage and inspire businesses to export.

More than 600 delegates attended the summit, taking part in specialist workshops and hearing first-hand the steps they could take to export their goods and services.

In addition to engaging with SMEs and local businesses, export champions will promote the Department for International Trade’s Exporting Is GREAT campaign and digital tool great.gov.uk which helps UK businesses break into overseas markets.

Hall-Fast exports its standard range of 200,000 items to a growing customer base of 22,500 in 92 overseas markets.

Its online strategy for success is not the conventional route to exporting, however, and its success has been used by many groups as an example to help promote exporting to other businesses.

In 2013, the government highlighted Hall-Fast as an example of how a business can grow using the power of the web.
